Rural communities and businesses are attractive, vulnerable targets for criminals. The value of equipment has risen, improvements in urban security have driven criminals out of towns, the sheer distance from Police stations means criminals have longer to commit crimes as victims wait for Police and Cambridgeshire has a wonderful network of major roads enabling them to get away quickly. We are seeing a steep rise in rural crime and Cambridgeshire Countryside Watch (CCW) is committed to working with the Police to combat this threat to our security and way of life.

How does it work?

CCW works closely with Police and uses WhatsApp, Text and email to ensure information is passed quickly between members and police officers. CCW supplied the Rural Crime Action Team (RCAT) police officers with a dedicated mobile phone for use with our closed WhatsApp groups meaning that communications can be instant when an incident is in progress. For members who choose not to use WhatsApp we use text and we also send a weekly roundup of crimes and news by email.
We ask that all members report anything at all suspicious to us, as soon as possible, so that warnings can be sent to members and the information acted upon. This has resulted in arrests and prosecutions, stolen property being returned and countless criminal acts being disrupted.

Countryside Watch – The future

Countryside Watch has been fighting rural crime since 1993. With support from our local Police we have had many notable successes from locating and returning equipment like tractors and horseboxes, providing the information for successful prosecutions to finding a vulnerable missing teenage girl.
Two Regional Officers are available to assist members in improving their security and to advise should incidents occur.
To continue with this vital work we are always looking for new members.

Membership is just over a £1 a week, for this you can help yourself and your county to be safer and more peaceful.
